Welcome to issue 94 of the Call to Comms!

This week, we mark the International Girls in ICT Day, on the 24th of April. On this occasion, we spoke to Keiza and Clara in Madagascar, respectively 16 and 19 years old, on their use of information and communication technologies (ICT) and its impact on their lives.

In rural Madagascar, TSF manages a cyber center with access to technical tools as well as regular Digital Inclusion activities. The goal is to improve the living conditions of the communities in the region by using Information Communication Technology to create social links.

Kezia: Looking for a Job & Finding Inspiration

"I've been going to the ITCUP center since I was a little girl. Back then, I used to take part in manual activities, making creations on paper using the tablet. Little by little, I developed more knowledge and joined the technical club and the cyber club. What I like most about the computer and the Internet are the videos.

The Internet helps me a lot in my daily life, especially with my homework. I come to the center to do research, and I often find what I need here; what's important for me is to have access to information and to be able to follow the news.

“The Internet helps me a lot in my daily life.”

I've also learned a lot of new things at the center, especially during the themed workshops. For example, we learned how to use Canva and Zoom. Today, it's essential to have access to digital technology to look for a job or keep in touch with friends and family.

My dream is to one day become an international volunteer in the field of political science. I think that digital technology can help me a lot to achieve this goal: creating my CV, finding testimonials from people who have already volunteered, getting inspiration from their experiences.

I want to say to other girls: don't be afraid of using digital technology. It's a really useful tool in our lives. Thanks to it, we can stay connected with the world, and that's really important."

Clara: Learning Foreign Languages

"I've been coming to the ITCUP center since I was a child. I've taken part in several activities, such as the film club, the technical club and the cyber club.

“Even though I no longer go to school, I continue to learn thanks to digital technology.”

My favorite things to do on the computer are taking quizzes on Kahoot, creating visuals on Canva, and watching videos. Digital technology helps me a lot, especially when it comes to learning foreign languages.

Even though I no longer go to school, I continue to learn thanks to digital technology. My dream is to become a foreign language teacher one day. Digital technology is a real asset in realizing this dream. You have to keep going, persevere and not get discouraged.

I really recommend young girls to come to the ITCUP center; you discover a lot of things and it brings many advantages."

See you in two weeks!
